Chiny Fort Historical Trail – Tracing the Medieval Castle
A short walk through the cobbled streets of the fort district, discovering the remains of the old castle and its medieval fortified headland.

This 600-metre route takes you back to medieval times in Chiny, once the seat of a powerful county that shaped the region.
You'll wander through narrow streets in the fort quarter, where the counts' castle once stood. The remains of a fortified headland – a natural defensive system reinforced by human hands – bear witness to the site's strategic importance. Sections of walls, exposed foundations and the distinctive topography of the area recall the era when Chiny held sway over Gaume.
The walk takes 10 to 15 minutes at a gentle pace, but take your time to look around: old architecture, carved details, views over the Semois valley below. The route is accessible year-round and poses no technical difficulty.
Perfect for a quick cultural discovery before exploring the surroundings, or as an addition to a village visit. Wear sturdy shoes if the cobblestones are wet.
